Sometimes you just need a good muse

We went to visit my brother and sister-in-law last night. Pizza, beer, good laughs, and babies. My brother is thinking of getting a dSLR as well, so I brought along my latest toy for his viewing pleasure. He's still undecided.

Here are some pictures of my nephew, Ivan.

And some words of advice from my brother, paraphrased:
We took over 100 pictures tonight, most of them blurry or too dark.  Your job is to have more pictures that look like these!
Believe me..that's what I'm working on.

Cheers

It's so dark outside...

Today I wanted to test taking pictures in the dark. Normally, with my old P&S camera, if it was too dark outside and I wanted a picture, it would either be filled with light from the flash, or pitch black. With my new camera, many reviews told me that it takes great pictures in the dark, so my goal: Take some neat pictures in the area, in the dark, with no flash, and hope for the best.

With the pitter-patter of rain outside, I didn't get to experiment for too long, but I think I got a few shots that came out great!

This is my favourite one of the set:

Jackie took a great picture herself yesterday in the rain...

Impromptu Photo Shoot - Jack Sparrow

New Toy, New Learning

Being out of school for sometime I am still wanting to learn SOMETHING. Gone are the days of Business Marketing and Macro Economics (thank g-d) and now is the time to help my horrible addiction to technology.

I am known for my obsession with the latest gadgets and my wife (brother, dad, mom, friends...anyone who comes into contact with me) will attest to my daily research on what's next in the world of technology.

Yesterday I made a change - I bought something not just to enjoy but to learn and continue progressing. I bought a beautiful new DSLR - a few photographer friends gawked at my giant leap for my first DSLR but I am not the type of person to just "dip my toe in" - I have to jump in! Of course Jackie laughed at my insistence to buy the camera. We agreed that I would buy in March and she silently kept her laughter as she knew I would not be able to wait that long. g-d help our future children who want the latest greatest toy - it would be the most epic good cop bad cop. Dave: Sure! let's get it now!, Jackie: You don't need it! READ A BOOK! - but let that fun argument be left to future Dave and Jackie to figure out.

Unpacking the camera last night I was like a kid a Christmas - and being Jewish myself this was a big deal! Jackie researched washers and dryers that I said she could buy - and as her typical self decided at the end of the night I'll wait - we don't need them now - little did she know I was planning all the future accessories I would buy (tripod, lenses, bags, filters).

Our poor cat became the subject of an impromtu photo shoot...

I hope to fill this blog our pictures and the amazing events that comprise our life.

Thank you to Jackie for letting me buy this camera - and writing this blog with me.
